"Yourself a newborn bard of the Holy Ghost" Ralph Waldo Emerson
To find my voice, I pick up my guitar or (re)read a good book. Words, songwriting, and stories are my currency in this world.
I wrote my first song when I was 18. It wasn't very good but I wrote in earnest. As I've continued to write songs I've learned a thing or two, mostly about living with the same sense of urgency as that 18 year old with the instinct to put pen to paper.
True inspiration is the opposite of imitation. Inspiration is an inside job. I write a lyric and I am changed. I sing a song and my soul is awakened. Artistic expression is life. We should all be the bard.
